A game in a browser shares the machine with everything else: other tabs, extensions, the browser itself. When it stutters, the fix is usually to give it more of the machine. These steps help with most browser games, Dot Conquest included.
1. Turn on graphics acceleration
Browser games draw with your graphics card. If the browser is not allowed to use it, everything is drawn the slow way.
- Chrome or Edge: Settings, then System, then "Use graphics acceleration when available". Restart the browser.
- Firefox: Settings, then General, then Performance; make sure hardware acceleration is not switched off.
2. Plug in, and use a performance power mode
Laptops slow their processor and graphics on battery to save power. Plug in, and on Windows set the power mode to "Best performance" (or "Balanced"). On a Mac, turn off Low Power Mode while you play.
3. Close other tabs
Every open tab uses memory and some processor time, and video tabs use a lot. Close what you do not need, especially other games, video and anything that refreshes itself.
4. Try without extensions
Ad blockers and other extensions can slow pages, and some inspect everything a page does. Try the game in a window with extensions off (a private window, or a separate browser profile) to see if it helps.
5. Use fullscreen
Fullscreen often runs more smoothly than a window, and it keeps the browser's other parts out of the way. Dot Conquest's Play page has a Fullscreen button under the game.
6. A smaller window draws less
If fullscreen is not smooth, a smaller window is: there are fewer pixels to draw each frame. On a very high-resolution screen this can make a big difference. Dot Conquest's page already limits how sharply it draws on high-density screens, to keep frames cheap.
7. Restart the browser
A browser that has been open for days holds onto memory. Restarting it, then opening only the game, is often the single biggest improvement.
8. Check the graphics driver
On Windows, an old graphics driver can make browsers fall back to slow drawing. Updating it from your graphics card maker's site can help.
What is normal
Big battles with many sides and many dots are the heaviest moments of any strategy game. A short dip there is normal; constant stutter in a small battle is not.
Telling us about it
If Dot Conquest stutters on a machine where other games run smoothly, a report helps. Say which browser and what kind of computer, and which battle (the level's name, or the Gauntlet or the Daily). The game is still being made, and reports like this are how the slow spots are found.
Where to go next
- It will not start at all: the browser game won't load.
- Keys and fullscreen: mouse and keyboard controls.
