The browser version of Dot Conquest runs inside your browser using WebGL 2 and WebAssembly, which every current desktop browser supports. When it does not start, the cause is usually one of a few things. Try these in order.
1. Is it a desktop browser?
The browser version is for desktop and laptop browsers, with a mouse and a keyboard. On a phone or a tablet, the Play page shows a message instead of the game. That is on purpose for now: see desktop only, for now.
2. Is the browser up to date?
The game needs a browser from the last few years. Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari all work. If yours has not updated in a long time, update it and try again.
3. Wait for the download
The first time, the game downloads its files when you press Play; the Play page shows how big the download is and how far it has got. On a slow connection this takes a while. Your browser keeps the files afterwards, so the next start is faster.
4. Is hardware acceleration on?
The game draws with your graphics card through WebGL. If your browser has hardware acceleration switched off, WebGL may not be available, and the game cannot start.
- Chrome or Edge: Settings, then System, then "Use graphics acceleration when available". Turn it on and restart the browser.
- Firefox: Settings, then General, then Performance. Make sure hardware acceleration is not switched off.
5. Try without extensions
Some extensions block scripts or large downloads. Open a private window (where most extensions are off) and try the Play page there. If it works, an extension is the cause.
Keep in mind that in a private window, your progress is not kept after you close it. See saves.
6. Reload, or clear the cache
If a download was interrupted, a reload usually fixes it. If it does not, clear your browser's cached files for this site and try again. Clearing cached files is safe; clearing the site's stored data also deletes your progress.
7. Low memory
The game needs some free memory. With many tabs or programs open, a browser can refuse to start it. Close a few tabs and try again.
When the Play page shows an error
If the game cannot start, the Play page says so, with two buttons:
- Copy details copies the version, the error and your browser's name, so you can paste them into a report.
- Report it opens the feedback form with the version filled in.
A report with those details is the fastest way to get it fixed. Nothing about you is sent with it unless you add your email yourself.
Where to go next
- It loads but runs slowly: the browser game is slow.
- Your progress is missing: saves, resets and transfers.
